Scholarship Obligations

Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are renewable subject to review and reapplication. Acceptance of a Sport Scholarship requires an athlete to agree to:

  • Maintain an elite athlete status
  • Demonstrate academic performance

Continuing students: maintain a successful academic record (minimum GPA 2.0)

New students: gaining entry to a degree program at Macquarie University

  • Represent Macquarie University at Intervarsity competitions, if applicable
  • Participate in and/or assist Macquarie University in their respective sport, if applicable
  • Promote and support Macquarie University
  • Meet additional obligations as outlined in the Sport Scholarship Agreement

It is at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee to award scholarships to applicants.

Criteria and benefits

Elite Athletes

Successful applicants are athletes competing at a National (open) championship or professional level who are recognised by the relevant National sporting body as elite or who are a member of a National development squad. It is at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee to award scholarships to applicants.

  • National squad member or equivalent (AIS) and/or
  • Consistent international representation in open teams and individual sports competition
  • Top five national open ranking for individual sports (for the year prior to application)
  • Participate in national professional sporting competitions

Benefits:

  • Annual financial scholarship for educational or sporting expenses up to $3,000
  • Academic liaison and support as per Macquarie University EAFU Charter
  • Opportunity to apply for a Personal Training Scholarship (with exception of professional athletes)
  • Representative Tour subsidies up to $800 per year
  • EUG, Snow Unigames and AUG subsidies
  • Sport Scholar Uniform
  • Ticket to Blues Awards
  • Annual Sport & Aquatic Centre Membership valued at over $700.
  • Personal development seminars and tutorials
  • Access to Mentors@MQ Sport, MQ Sport Alumni Program and Career Success Program

Emerging Athletes

Successful applicants are athletes competing at a National (under age) or State (open) level.

  • National aged squad member or equivalent (AIS)
  • State squad open member or equivalent (NSWIS)
  • Top ten national ranking age or open competition for individual sports (for the year prior to application)
  • Finalist at age or open competition

Benefits:

  • Academic liaison and support as per Macquarie University EAFU Charter
  • Opportunity to apply for a Personal Training Scholarship (with exception of professional athletes)
  • Representative Tour subsidies up to $800 per year
  • EUG, Snow Unigames and AUG subsidies
  • Sport Scholar Uniform
  • Ticket to annual Blues Awards
  • Annual Sport & Aquatic Centre Membership valued at over $700.
  • Personal development seminars and tutorials
  • Access to Mentors@MQ Sport, MQ Sport Alumni Program and Career Success Program

EAFU Supported Athletes

Successful applicants are athletes competing at a State (under age) level.

  • State aged or equivalent i.e. NSWIS

Benefits:

  • Personal development seminars and tutorials
  • Access to Mentors@MQ Sport, MQ Sport Alumni Program and Career Success Program
