The Macquarie University Rugby Football Club is one of the oldest sporting club on campus and prides itself on being a competitive force on the field, whilst maintaining a friendly and social atmosphere to enjoy your rugby.
The club boasts current and past students to blend youth with experience. We cater all levels of skill, entering teams in a variety of grades throughout the year. So if you're looking to meet some new mates and play the best game around, then join the club today!
We caught up with Club President and 10 year veteran of the club Adam Joyce.
1. What Competitions does the Club participate in and does the club cater for all standards?
MURFC competes in the 4th Division NSW Suburban Rugby Competition (Subbies). We welcome everyone from seasoned veteran to newcomers to the game.
2. How many teams will the club be entering in competitions 2016?
We will be fielding 3 Senior Grades, and hopefully a Colts team (Under 21's) and a Women's side.
3. When and where will the club commence training in 2016?
Our first training session will be on Thursday the 21st of January (along with the Thursday the 28th), from 6:30 pm, Gwilliam Field (2nd field on the left as you enter the complex), Mac Uni Sports Fields, corner of Culloden and Talavera Rds, Marsfield. Beginning in February we will be training every Tuesday and Thursday night in preparation for Round 1 on the 2nd of April.
4. What social activities does the club have planned for 2016?
2016 marks the 50th season MURFC has fielded a side on the Sydney Rugby Competition. We are looking to have a season launch in mid-March which will double as a celebration of 50 years of Rugby at Macquarie University. Throughout the year we also celebrate New Boys Night, Ladies Day and Old Boys Day alongside the Thursday Night BBQ's after training,
5. What are some of the future goals for the club?
A return to the Finals in 2016 is our immediate goal, but the long-term future of the club relies on the development of pathways for the players, a Colts side is integral to that, and being able to field a Colts side every year is probably the main long-term goal. A better relationship with the Alumni of the club is paramount as well, and MURFC will be launching an Old Boys Club in 2016.
6. How would someone wanting to join the club get involved?
The easiest way is to come down to training and join in, otherwise you can contact the club via our email address email@example.com, or via our facebook page: - https://www.facebook.com/macquarieuniversityrfc/ - We welcome anyone who has an interest in Rugby and enjoys being involved with the best club on campus.
