Martial arts team
The Macquarie University Martial Arts team comprises of some of the most experienced instructors in the martial arts industry. We pride ourselves on the quality of our classes and our instructors reflect this.
Chief Instructor: Master Ron Claassens (6th Dan Taekwondo)
Like many martial artists who started in the 70's, I was influenced by the action of Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" and David Carridines "Kung Fu". Starting my life long obsession with the Martial Arts training in GoJu Karate with Merv Oakley in Brookvale when I was 13 years old, then at 20 moved on to Taekwondo in 1981 with the AFTA at Macquarie University.
I've always been broad minded regarding my influences in the Martial arts its a bit like the who's who in the industry. The ones that stand out Benny "The Jet" Urquidez Multi stylist, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace Karate, Prof. Don Jacobs Jui Jutsu, Prof JihanJae Hapkido, Maurice Smith KickBoxing, Chai Sirusuite MuayThai , Grand Master Kwak Taekwondo, Master Callagari Freestyle TKD and many others that I've met along the path we call the martial artists journey. I see myself as an innovator blending my years of experience in martial arts and yoga to develop and tune the body to the highest possible level. With this knowledge I help my students achieve their goals and never stop learning and improving my technique and understanding of the arts.
Ron is also an instructor in the Mini MacWarrior Martial Arts programs.

Instructor Dr Carlo Bradac has more than 12 years of experience in Martial Arts. Carlo also studied and is currently practicing (2008-current) Tae Kwon Do (ITF Style) under Master Ron Claassens who is the founder of the Institute of Modern Tae Kwon Do (IMT). In fact, despite being a Korean Martial Art, Tae Kwon Do finds its roots in Shotokan Karate.
Carlo has studied under Master Ron Claassens since 2008, he achieved his 1st Dan in 2011 and his 2nd Dan in 2015. He started teaching as an Instructor with the IMT in 2011 and is now officially Boo Sar Bom Nim (Instructor) with the club.
Besides practicing Martial Arts, Dr Carlo Bradac has been competing in long-distance running events for the past 17 years: 5-km, 10-km, half and full marathons. He believes ‘Martial Arts’ is not a static discipline, but rather an ever-evolving one, and true to this believe he also practices yoga, cross-training, parkour, mixed martial arts, boxing and grappling.
