Security on campus
Keeping the campus safe
Security response vehicle
Security Services provide a highly visible presence in and around the Campus Precinct, achieved by Security Staff patrolling the University on foot, in marked AWD Buggies, and in a Security Response Vehicle.
You will regularly see our Security Vehicle patrolling the roadways of the Campus, visiting the Macquarie University Housing precincts, and responding to alarms and other incidents around the Campus.
The vehicle is radio controlled, providing for a fast response time to any situation that may occur. All of our Security Officers are Occupational First Aiders, and the vehicle carries First Aid equipment including an Automatic External Defibrillator and an Oxy-Reviver.
Security services officers
Striving for outstanding customer service, our friendly staff are a regular sight in and around the main areas of the Campus. Able to assist with your enquiries, Security Officers patrol the Eastern, Western, and Central Precincts on a 24 hour per day basis.
Daily our Security Officers respond to incidents here on Campus such as Fire Alarms, Thefts, reports of Lost Property, First Aid and other events that regularly impact upon the Campus population.
Traffic & parking officers
Macquarie University parking is controlled under a set of By-Laws and Regulations.
The requirements are clearly signposted around the parking areas of the Campus and these are routinely enforced by our Traffic and Parking Officers.
Macquarie University promotes compliance of with our parking restrictions, and a map outlining the areas, numbers and types of parking spots available is publicly available at www.mq.edu.au/campusmaps
Green light buildings
Across the Macquarie University Campus, there are a number of green light buildings, which indicate the regular presence of security personnel. These buildings include the
- Vice Chancellery (Building E11A),
- Campus Life Building (Building C10A),
- Library (Building C3C)
- Security Control Centre (Building C1A).
During the core business hours of operation for the University, security officers are located there and are available to assist with any type of incident or emergency, whilst the Security Control Centre in C1A is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Macquarie University currently has over 22 Emergency help points strategically positioned throughout the University.
These Help points can be activated by pressing the red button on the unit. Upon pressing the button a blue light LED turns on you are able to communicate 24x7 directly to our Campus Security and state your emergency request.
The activation of the Help point will automatically prompt a local CCTV camera focus and a map to populate at the Security Control Centre along with one of the locations listed on the following list. The controller will then promptly send an officer to your assistants.
In fact, the Controller will dispatch an officer each time the help point is activated.
These installations are either post-mounted or, in some locations, wall-mounted on the sides of University buildings.
Across the Campus, there is comprehensive coverage by CCTV cameras. Installed at key locations, the Security Control Centre monitors the vision from all of these cameras. Using the latest state-of-the-art technology, we are able to integrate an effective mixture of both Security Officers and technical expertise to provide a safe and secure environment.
