Security response vehicle
Security Services is a highly visible presence in and around the Campus Precinct. Security Staff patrol the University on foot, in marked AWD Buggies, and in a Security Response Vehicle.
You will see our Security vehicle patrolling the roadways of the campus, visiting the Macquarie University Housing precincts, and responding to alarms and other incidents around campus.
The vehicle is radio controlled, providing for a fast response time to any situation. All of our Security Officers are First Aiders, and our vehicles carry first aid equipment including an Automatic External Defibrillator and an Oxy-Reviver.
Security Services Officers
Striving for outstanding customer service, our friendly staff are seen in and around the main areas of the Campus. Security Officers patrol all precincts 24 hours per day and are able to assist with your enquiries.
Our Security Officers respond to incidents on campus such as fire alarms, thefts, reports of lost property, first aid and other events that impact the Campus population.
Traffic & parking officers
Macquarie University parking is controlled under a set of By-Laws and Regulations all of which are detailed in the Permit Application (includes parking rules).
The requirements are clearly signposted around the parking areas of the Campus, these are routinely enforced by our Traffic and Parking Officers.
Macquarie University promotes compliance with our parking restrictions. The numbers and types of parking spots across campus can be viewed in the Parking map.
Green light buildings
Across the Macquarie University Campus, there are a number of green light buildings, which indicate the presence of security personnel during core business hours.
The following 'green light buildings' are all shown on the Security map:-
- Vice Chancellery, 19 Eastern Road, (Building E11A)
- Campus Life Building, 1 Central Courtyard, (Building C10A)
- Library, 16 Macquarie Walk, (Building C3C)
- Security Control Centre, 17 Macquarie Walk, (Building C1A)
- Property Office, 2 Link Road, (Building Y6A)
The security officers that are located in the above buildings are available to assist with any type of incident or emergency.
The Security Control Centre at 17 Macquarie Walk (C1A) is staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
Macquarie University has Emergency help points strategically positioned throughout the University. The Help points are either post-mounted or, in some locations, wall-mounted on the sides of University buildings.
These Help points can be activated by pressing the red button on the unit. The activation of the Help point will automatically connect you with Campus Security so that you can speak with them to get assistance.
Campus Security are on-site 24 x 7 and are able to respond to any emergency.
Across the Campus, there is comprehensive coverage by CCTV cameras that are installed in key locations. The vision from the cameras is monitored in the Security Control Centre.
Using the latest state-of-the-art technology, we are able to integrate technology and our Security Officers to provide a safe and secure environment on campus.
After hours security escorts
Campus Security offers a walking escort for students and staff who do not want to walk alone on Campus after dark.
To take advantage of this service, please call the Security Control Centre on Extension 7112 from a University phone or 9850 7112 to arrange an escort.
Escorts will walk you from any location on Campus to the railway station, campus bus stops, the surrounding carpark areas or any of the University campus accommodation areas.
This service operates every day of the year, from sunset to sunrise.
The security control centre
Campus Security are located on Macquarie Dr Building C1A, opposite the Library Building C3C.
The Security Control Centre is opened 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
The Security Control Centre is vital in providing a wide range of information about the University, in terms of parking, core business hours, building locations, contractor management and any security issue. You can contact the Security Control Centre on (02)9850 7112.
Critical incident management
In the event of an emergency incident taking place within the Campus precinct, the Security Control Centre becomes the Campus Emergency Control Centre and coordinates the first response of the University's Emergency Management Plan.
Members of the Emergency Control Organisation use the facilities based at the Security Control Centre during any type of emergency, including:
- Fires, building and bushfires
- Severe weather events
- Bomb threats
- Power, water and lift failures
- Chemical and biological accidents
- Violent offender on Campus
