Earthquake

  • Earthquakes of moderate magnitudes can occur in Sydney
  • Stay inside and remain calm, the greatest risk is from falling debris
  • If you are inside a building, stay as far away as possible from windows and other glass items, and try to find something strong and sturdy to hide under (like a large desk)
  • Try to protect yourself with physical barriers - if a desk is not available, then move out into a hallway or stand against an inside wall
  • Do not exit the building, as falling material may cause fatal injuries
  • If you are outdoors stay away from buildings, utility lines, trees or any other structure that may fall unexpectedly
  • Be aware of the consequences of an earthquake such as structural collapse, gas leaks, power disruption or fire
  • Observe any instructions given by the Campus Emergency Warning systems such as Alerts or Building Evacuation Systems
