About the service
The interlibrary loan service, or document supply, helps eligible staff and students locate and request items not held by the library. These can include books, research reports, theses as well as copies of journal articles, chapters from books or conference papers required for your research and teaching.
The service is free, except for urgent request or requests costing $65 or more.
2 hour express request cost $33.00 (incl GST)
24 hour rush request cost $16.50 (incl GST)
Please contact staff immediately after submitting an urgent request. You will need to quote the request number.
Using the service
The document supply/interlibrary loan service is used by academics, professional staff, postgraduate and higher degree research students, as well as Distance Education Students. For most users there is no need to register - login to MultiSearch using using your MQ username and password, and place your request.
You will receive an email when the item is available. Download chapters and articles from the document supply system using the link received in the email. Loans can be collected from the Collection point, level 2, Library.
All loans should be returned to Macquarie University Library.
If you wish to renew an item contact Interlibrary loan staff directly. Interlibrary loans cannot be renewed online.

Document supply for other Libraries
We supply loans and copies of material to Australian and overseas libraries in accordance with the Copyright Act (1968) and its amendments. Our policies are online.
We supply requests placed through Libraries Australia Document Delivery (LADD), OCLC Worldshare or our local system. To register for our local system, call (02) 9850 7514 or email email@example.com
Place requests using LADD or our local system. We do not accept fax, email or phone requests.
Payment using the Libraries Australia payment system is preferred. Payment by cheque, credit card or EFT will be accepted.
Place requests using OCLC Worldshare or our local system. We do not accept fax, email or phone requests. Loans cost (including airmail delivery) either:
- AUD $20.00 or
- 2 full IFLA vouchers or
- 8 international postal reply coupons
Copies cost either:
- AUD $10.00 or
- 1 full IFLA voucher or
- 4 international postal reply coupons
Payment may be made with IFLA vouchers, International Postal Coupons or cheque.
Macquarie Theses are not for loan. Libraries can purchase a copy. The cost (including postage if required) is:
- AUD $110 for Australian libraries
- AUD $130 for international libraries
Requests should be placed through LADD or OCLC Worldshare. Alternatively, if this is not possible, an email request can be placed via firstname.lastname@example.org
An electronic copy will be made available, with the author's permission, or an unbound copy will be posted to you. Please note this service takes 4-6 weeks excluding delivery time.
Under the provisions of the Copyright Act, 1968, as amended, we are limited to sending only one chapter or 10% of a book. Journals are less restricted, allowing us to send multiple articles from single journal issues. Supply of items not held by the Library must be for teaching and/or research purposes.
