What is sustainability?

The concept of sustainability is a lot simpler than people think: Be good to yourself, to others and to the planet. We do this by understanding and appreciating the interconnectivity between our society, the environment and the economy, and how our decisions and actions impact this balance – both now and into the future. The decisions we make and the actions we take today influence our tomorrow.

The goal of sustainability is to simultaneously protect and improve our world for our global citizenry and for the good of the planet. At Macquarie, we align sustainability priorities with the following five principles of sustainable development adopted by the United Nations:

Sustainable Development Principles

Being sustainable isn’t hard – how can you argue against something that is really aiming for a better future? Taking small steps towards sustainability is easy, but if you need help to understand what else you can do or if you want to make a bigger impact, that’s where Macquarie’s Sustainability team comes in. Once you’ve decided what aspect of sustainability you’re interested in, we can help you figure out how to achieve your sustainability goal.
