Future Wireless Networks

Our research staff are internationally recognized and leading in future wireless communication systems. There is a strong focus on next generation (5G) wide-area wireless networks, as well as on small scale medical body-area communications. New technologies include mm-wave communications, cell densification, heterogeneous networks, massive MIMO, and spectrum sharing. Other areas of interest include random access networks and network information theory.

Recent Achievements

  • Prof Stephen Hanly awarded the 2015 IEEE Communications Society Best Tutorial Paper Award
  • Prof Iain Collings awarded the Best Peer Reviewed Paper Award at the International Global Navigation Satellite Systems Society Symposium and Exhibition (IGNSS) 2015
  • We brought to Australia the 10th International Conference on Body Area Networks (BODYNETS 2015) which was held on 28-30 September 2015 in Sydney. The conference was under the technical sponsorship of the ACM. For more information visit the conference website.
  • We were the first university in Australia to forge a research partnership with CSIRO under the revitalised Science Industry Endowment Fund
