Plenary Title: Constructing the Calculable Patient:  The Hybridisation of Accounting and Medical Knowledge in the Psychiatric Asylum. A Personal Story of Transdisciplinary Research into Management History

Cheryl S. McWatters is the Father Edgar Thivierge Chair in Business History and professor of accounting, University of Ottawa where she teaches courses in business history and management accounting.  Cheryl holds a Ph.D. in Management from Queen’s University, Canada where she pursued a doctorate in accounting and history.  She is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA).  Cheryl’s research interests span accounting, business and economic history, management accounting and control, and operations management.  She is the current editor of Accounting History Review and associate editor of the Journal of Operations Management and Accounting Perspectives, as well as serving on a number of editorial boards and as ad hoc reviewer for a variety of academic journals and conferences.  Cheryl is the current president of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA-ACPC) and the Chair of the Canadian Enterprise History Network (CEHN-RCHE).  Her research has been published in a variety of academic journals and collected volumes including, amongst others, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting History Review (formerly Accounting, Business and Financial History), Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Business History, Accounting Historians Journal, and Droits.  She is co-author with Professor J. Zimmerman of Management Accounting in a Dynamic Environment (Routledge, 2016).
