Department of Economics

As a postgraduate student or researcher, you have access to a range of great research opportunities with generous financial support through our Master of Economics and the Master of Research (leading to the PhD) programs. Our graduates are in strong demand with government and private sector organisations, both within Australia and globally.

Research is the way of life to our academics. Economics researchers investigate industry and inflation policies, reforms, competition in financial markets, financial risks, and labour market issues. Among other topics, our researchers also look into the economics of the arts and culture, sustainable development, financial bubbles and Asian economies.

Through our Research Networks we focus on addressing some of the most challenging subjects of our times:

  • Designing financial markets that deliver financial and macroeconomic stability.
  • Assisting regional developing nations to transition towards socially, economically and environmentally sustainable development paths.
  • Envisioning the role of culture and cultural products in our economic thinking.
  • Providing policy makers with the necessary tools to understand opportunities and trade-offs to enhance societies’ welfare.

Explore our Research Networks, and Seminars and Conferences pages. Visit our Areas of Expertise page to find out more about our staff's research interest.
